FAQ's
  1. The Practice is scheduled until May 2025. 
  2. The practice is predominantly for school-age children aged 6 - 18, but also assesses adult Dyslexia/Dyscalculia. 
  3. This Practice does not conduct Adult Autism or ADHD assessments
  4. Screening only is conducted for school - Age ADHD. This neurodiverenge requires onward referral to  either CAMHS or a Consultant Paediatrician.
  5. Children under six are typically referred to Early Intervention or Assessment of Need (Speech and Language (S &LT), Occupational Therapy (OT) or Psychology needs are identified. Under the Disability Act , the HSE must respond within 3 months to you, and assessment must take place in the following three months.
  6. As an Educational Psychology Practice, the principal psychologist always links with the schools. i.e., Reports are for academic or mental health support for the child/ young person.
  7. Educational Psychology may not be the correct pathway for your child's/ young person's needs. In this case, the correct pathway will be identified for you.
  8. This is a small but very busy practice. Please allow a month turnaround for reports, which will be provided upon completion. More complex needs must be prioritized. Please do not contact the office to request a report ahead of the identified timeframe.
  9. More complex queries require staged/multidisciplinary formulation.
  10. The practice does not provide ongoing therapeutic support. This lies within the remit of PCC/ Private Clinical Psychology, CDNT ( Only accepts more complex ASD), or Private Psychotherapy/CBT.

As an Educational Psychologist, Kathleen Browne conducts psycho educational and behavioural assessments and provides intervention frameworks and ongoing monitoring of Response to Intervention (RTI) in consultation with & problem solving with stakeholders. Screening for disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD and mental health and/or socio/ emotional difficulties includes differential diagnosis via liaison with Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Psychology (PCC) or CAMHs, primarily with the school age population (4 - 18). She also conducts cognitive and Dyslexia/Dyscalculia assessments with third-level students and the adult population.

She brings 21 years of teaching and school management and communication industry experience, people skills and counseling methodologies to facilitate individual and group discussions to explore problems and options for resolving concerns. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is maintained by ongoing research and training. Mental Health coaching skills are employed in coping with stress, anxiety, panic, being overwhelmed, time - management and learning resilience skills.

Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

The main symptoms of this disorder are: hyperactivity, impulsivity, and attention difficulties. These can severely impact on academic performance and on social development. These should be present before the child reaches the age of 7, be persistent for over 6 months, be pervasive, and must be observed in at least 2 different settings. Typical behaviours: easily distracted, disorganised, forgetful, makes careless mistakes, fails to finish tasks, leaves seat inappropriately, acts as if driven by a motor, has trouble turn with turn taking, blurts out answers without thinking, talks excessively, and interrupts others' conversations and activities.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
